| Reinventing Leadership |
 |
Einstein said. "The significant problems we face
cannot be solved with the same level of thinking." As a leader, are you
the problem or the solution? In small and large organizations, the
leader can be the catalyst to change or the barrier to growth, depending
upon the leader's willingness to reinvent them self.
In today's business environment, we are rapidly
moving away from the management style of the carrot and stick. This
system may have worked well on the baby boomers who are now moving ever
more rapidly towards retirement. Very soon, if not already baby boomers
will be turning 60 at a rate of one every nine seconds in North America.
The positions soon to be vacated by them will have to be filled by
Generation Xers. These generation Xers are not motivated by the carrot
and stick and are most interested in how the organization can support
them through training and other programs, and how they can balance work
and family.
The managers, owners, and executives, in most
organizations spend their time and efforts managing the work, and little
if any time managing the vision. They are caught up in the everyday
workload and demands of the organization and their staff. Ultimately,
this results in poorer service, customer and staff discontent, and loss
of market share. Like it or not staff follow the examples of
leadership. Visionless leadership means visionless staff, which means
visionless results. Visionless leaders focus too much on the present
financial results and not enough on the future. A strong vision for the
future with big hairy audacious goals for the organization and the
leaders, coupled with affirmative action build strong sustainable
organizations.
The bottom line results reflect the leaders
personality traits. Creating change in today's work environment
requires visioning, goal setting, and a strong unwavering commitment to
enrolling, coaching, and mentoring the organization and staff so that
the whole organization becomes a driving force to success. To create
change the leader must become a coach and be coachable. When the
leaders take a stand to reinvent them self, and only then, will the
organization start the shift towards the desired vision, goals, and
profitability. Leaders lead, others follow. Strong leaders change and
adapt, and manage their personality traits for positive change. Are you
willing to change for the betterment of your organization?

Stan
Don't tell people
how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with
their results. George S. Patton
Management is doing
things right; leadership is doing the right things. Peter F. Drucker
